The International Clostridium difficile Symposium: epidemiology, pathogenesis, prevention and treatment, under the auspices for the Institute of Biomedicine from Brazilian Semiarid Region and the Federal University of Ceara, Brazil, is mainly aimed to foster the integration of researchers, physicians, microbiologists and students linked with postgraduate programs, institutes / centers or with foreign researchers around the research about C. difficile disease.

Thus, aims to create a scientific environment conducive to the establishment and consolidation of partnerships and intra and inter-institutional collaborations focused on the investigation of the pathogenesis, detection, prevention and treatment of disease induced by this bacterium, whose incidence and severity is increasing worldwide.

In Brazil and Latin American, although this infection is poorly investigated, research conducted in few regions and countries. The event includes experimental high-level research, molecular and genetic bases, along with clinical and epidemiological research. Furthermore, it is expected to inspire young researchers to engage in translational research in the field of infection of gastrointestinal tract often in developing countries. Finally, we intend to disseminate widely to the lay public the results of research, through interviews and articles in journals, especially encouraging preventive measures.
